Sajou Threads - A Needlepoint Work in Progress

Sajou Threads - A Needlepoint Work in Progress

How do you choose threads for a needlepoint piece?  Some people love working with wool or cotton.  Others love the shine of silk or the sparkle of metallics.  Of course each kind of thread has it's special place and application.  I have a new lovely canvas and my goal is to stitch it with many of the various Sajou threads.  This canvas is 18 mesh and my threads will include the Retors du Nord cotton, Laine St. Pierre wool, Sajou silk and the Tonkin polyester with glittering metallic.  This work in progress will be updated in future blog postings.

In this first photo, you can see how the yarns fill the 18 mesh canvas.  I used two strands of the Tonkin, 4 strands of the Retors du Nord, and a strand of silk combined with a strand of the Retors du Nord.  Each thread has a different gauge or thickness and working them in the best way makes the stitching even and more pleasurable.  Stay tuned as my project develops!
