Mother of Pearl "S" motif Scissors

$124.00

This pair of embroidery scissors reproduce the Sajou "S". The finger rings are beautifully decorated with a festoon detail and the handles are made from imitation mother of pearl, a material which was often used in the past for delicate sewing items.Size: 11.8 cm

The pompom on these scissors has a small medallion with a hollowed out "S" in the same material as the scissors.

These scissors, including the pompom, are made entirely in France. It should be pointed out that it takes a dozen qualified people to make each pair.

Presented in a Sajou box and a label on the inside cover explains the manufacturing process.

The pairing marks are an important detail that enables us to judge the quality of a pair of scissors. This is the number which you can see on the interior of each of the blades. This number is different on each pair of scissors and indicates that both parts have been paired together from the first assemblage to make a perfect match. After the first fitting, the scissors are taken apart and each shear undergoes the different processing operations before being reassembled and finished.

In the 19th century such scissors would need the craftsmanship of a cutler for the steel blades and an ornamental turner for the mother of pearl work. Today the distribution of the work is quite similar: the blades are still made by a master cutler, and the handles are created in our own ateliers. The difference with the vintage models is that ours are more solid and extremely light, making them a joy to use.
