Embroidery Across Centuries and Continents

Embroidery Across Centuries and Continents

We are so fortunate to have examples of embroidery through the ages.  The Cleveland Museum of Art as well as other museums have generously made photographic files available of pieces in their collections.  The CMA is a treasure trove of great examples from so many different countries and cultures.  From Egypt to China, from Germany to Brazil, from the Congo to Canada, you can crisscross the globe through the eyes of artists who have embroidered and share their artistry.  We will be exploring many of the examples here and at other museums in the future..... for now, take a look and enjoy!

The photograph we feature is from the CMA collection:  Embroidered Raffia Pile Cloth, Embroidery, raffia

Overall: 57.5 x 48.5 cm (22 5/8 x 19 1/8 in.)
