Sewing Boxes!

Sewing Boxes!

One of my favorite places is the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.  The V&A is the world’s leading museum of art and design, housing a permanent collection of over 2.3 million objects that span over 5,000 years of human creativity. "The Museum holds many of the UK's national collections and houses some of the greatest resources for the study of architecture, furniture, fashion, textiles, photography, sculpture, painting, jewelery, glass, ceramics, book arts, Asian art and design, theatre and performance".  I have spent many hours there on multiple trips to the UK.  Among the many objects that you can see on their website, http://collections.vam.ac.uk/, are sewing boxes from around the world.  If you give a child a box they can play for hours.  And so we stitchers can play as well.

Here is an example of a miniature Japanese sewing box from the V & A collection.  Inside this steel box there is a sewing kit including a wire needle threader, gold metal thimble, thread card wound with black and white thread, small plastic bag with buttons, safety pins and hook and eye.   It was most likely make between 1965-1975.

We were inspired by these boxes and decided to create a few of our own. Our Sajou Box sets are collections of necessary tools and items for our needlework studios.  Each one has scissors, needles and specialty items that make working on our stitching a little easier and more organized.  Whether you embroider, needlepoint, knit or crochet you will find these boxes both useful and delightful.  Each handmade box features a vintage style label under the top.  These boxes are made in France of alder wood and are very sturdy.

Some of our favorite products are included in these Sajou Gift boxes.  Box 1 (on the left) features embroidery needles, pin cushion with glass head pins, our handmade Little Monster and a sized thimble.  Box 2 (on the right) contains embroidery needles, six Brehal thread cards, micro and regular needle threaders from Puffin and a Nogent Scissor.  There is plenty of room in each box to add your own tools.  Each box is specially priced for gift giving through the end of the year (December 31, 2018.) Watch our site as we add more Sajou Gift Boxes.
